| | VASILISCK – Serpentis Regalia (Funeral Decadence Productions): When I see an unintelligible name, written in white upon a black background, a mysterious name: "Serpentis Regalia"…and a furious corpse-painted guy in the inlay cover… I was quite anxious to hear this Cd-r, especially after hearing Cybernetic Erosion (both bands are under the same label Funeral Decadence Prods.) My expectations wasn't in vain… this project is absolutely astonishing!! Its music is quite unclassifiable but I think it could be called Techno/Ambient/Black Metal. The music is mainly based on synthesizers, which creates lugubrious and tenebrous atmospheres, accompanied by dark, blurry guitars, mostly high tuned, that makes the sound very strident and complete the necessary elements to sound "Black Metal", there're also some clean guitar passages adding anguished, depressive touches to the whole music. The programmed beats recreate a standard Black Metal drumming, but maintaining intact the Techno/Electronic feeling and adding the elements only the programmed music can provide. The voices are absolutely blackish, trollish, ripping and cut-throat… Fucking Grim!!! This works consist of three tracks clocked at 66 minutes, but the three tracks are just two songs and the second one "From The Depths Of The Swamp" is divided in six movements (…fuck this is confusing!!) …Anyway, the album could be divided chronologically in two; while the first half (the first two tracks) belongs to the realms of Techno/Ambient/Black Metal…with Black Metal-meets-Techno structures, mid velocities, occasional blast beats and strident guitars, the second half (the last track, to be precise, which is clocked at around 30 minutes!!!) is quite into the Ambient/Drone/Noise parameters, maintaining the bleak aura the first half has, this is a very interesting and mysterious track, it reminds me the sound of late Abruptum works and some of Voice Transmission With The Deceased. This work though is very varied in sound and structures, has a great coherence, always with a cold and dark feeling…definitely a great work. (AP) |
