Brief Description Four piece based in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Our first CD was released on the band's Ryzhik Records label Spring, 2005.
Keep an eye on this page or our main site at ammatusk.com for details on what's happening next with the band.
History/Biography In 1997, Scott Smith, bassist for a Milwaukee-area 50s/60s cover group "Cleveland Avenue Garage Band" met Jason Phillips when the two computer geeks were assigned to the same job site. They quickly realized they had the same twisted sense of humor and both were heavily into music. For over a year they plotted and planned to try and start a band, but it never seemed to come together. The only thing the two were able to accomplish was devising the name "ammatusk" which was a computer ID for one of Scott's coworkers. According to Scott, "the name just sounded like a band name. So we had a name even before we had a band."
Two years later, Scott met Michael "Spike" Ruland, former drummer for the Florida-based heavy metal band Sin City. After taking few years' hiatus from music, Spike met Jason and was convinced to pick up his sticks again. The band was born. The three worked on construction of a studio in Caledonia, Wisconsin and worked on writing, rewriting, and more writing.
By 2002, plans for a debut CD started coming together. The biggest problem was time: Scott's wife was expecting their second child and Spike had opened a store in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Fast-forward to Summer, 2003, and things had settled down enough where the band was working on finishing up the songs for the debut CD "Welcome to the Learning Curve." In November, 2003, Jason asked longtime friend Dave Bishop to join the band as guitarist, completing the band's lineup. |
