Often, I wonder what incidence has in music, the origin of one band or another, and I have always reached the same conclusion. If a band does not come from the States, or from Europe (and in Europe it depends from which parts) they never happen to receive the same consideration and many people remain with the desire of being able to enjoy bands like the one we are going to present you here. In spite of its European origin, it does not have nor has had (at least outside its native country) the recognition they deserve, because we are clear that if this quintet were Yankee-system, it is possible that we would be fed up of hearing or speaking of them. If we all remained agape with the Homo Iratus, I believe firmly after having listened to little of what this Greek band has to offer, that we will be hooked on them totally. Their sound gives off violence and aggressiveness through all of its pores, in one mixing of hc and metal, with Thrash Metal influences mostly. Without a doubt,... Read entire review »
| Rafferty Rules is an akward name. Yet, we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, right? Especially when the name serves the band's purpose to have a political/ reactionnary concept, similar to that of Rage Against The Machine and Refused. The main difference is that Rafferty Rules cover a whole different area of music: they say their music is thrashcore, i say they play thrash metal with a minor hardcore influence. Yeah, i'm trying to separate them from the emo- metal- core- something shit all over the world right now. The demo starts off with "Crushing Down". And that's the first heart attack: this is similar to The Haunted, only better. The breakdown is killer and the solo... well, let's just say it beats Kerry King to the ground. And this may be the CD's highlight, but the other songs have high standards too. The riffs are really good and the drumming is top- notch (although the drummer just quit the band). I didn't really understand the reason of having two vocalists with the... Read entire review »
| For those who might be unaware, Rafferty Rules come from Volos (Greece). Up to now they have released among some demos, an astonishing full length CD, "Name Your God". The latest addition to their discography is a 5-track EP entitled "Dispossessed" which, unfortunately, is not available for sale as it is exclusively predestined for labels and press. The word "unfortunately" was not randomly mentioned. Rafferty Rules have once more achieved a highlight-release! The usual Thrashcore and Metalcore mixture has paid off well, exactly like it does on Name Your God. During these 16 minutes of listening you can track down elements from The Haunted, Slayer, Meshuggah, Chimaira and Killswitch Engage! Every single track is an adrenaline-blast: From the Slayer-like riffs of Crushing Down, the unstoppable groove of Bursting With Hate, to the technical epilogue/conclusion of the State Of Aggression, Dispossessed ranks, without second thoughts, among the gems of this year. Of course, all of this... Read entire review » |
