Brief Description I'm a newbie, from the Detroit area. I've only been working with techno for about a year and a half, but I've been a musician since I was 8. I'm currently in Iraq (I'm in the Army Reserves), but I'm working on my music every free minute I have.
History/Biography Tekid began playing music at the age of 8, playing in a school band in the suburbs of Detroit. After 7 years of playing various brass instruments in school bands, he decided that, although he loved all music, he should focus more on the styles he knew and loved. At the age of 15, he bought his first guitar, and taught himself how to play. At the age of 17, he joined up with a close friend, CJ, and started a rock band, which was unsuccessful and did not play a single show, private or public. After the breakup, the two started a new band, which was named Broken. After disputes between members, and several unsuccessful private shows, the band went seperate ways. CJ, along with the vocalist of the band, started thier own group, Chalk Line, which is steadily gaining popularity to this day. Sean, the drummer, began his own group which was short-lived. Tekid fell into a musical abyss. Nobody wanted to start rock bands anymore. The only ones who did were already in bands. As time passed, he disappeared from the music scene. He left high school, and 3 months later, joined the military, the Army Reserves. After returning from training, he went on to work a full-time job to support himself, his fiance', and his then-unborn daughter. During the first week of 2004, he was again stumbling into darkness. His engagement had been broken, and he had no job. He soon turned 21 and was a total mess. In early spring of 2004, and old friend of his came to his side. DJ AvivA, who he had been friends with since playing a private show with Broken at his graduation party. They soon became best friends. DJ AvivA exposed Tekid to electronic music, as well as gave him the name Tekid. As he became more and more interested in electronic music, DJ AvivA taught him how to use music programs, and began to teach him the basics of turntables. Unfortunately, in July of 2004, Tekid was called upon by his country to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom, being slated for departure in October 2004. He currently is still serving in Iraq, but is working on his very own tracks, waiting for the day he returns from the desert to unleash his musical styles upon the electronic music scene. A member of AvivAWerX Productions, founded by DJ AvivA, he intends to fully return to the Detroit scene, ready to bring all that will listen to the dance floor with his Jungle/DnB style tracks. |
