History/Biography Dwayne "D" Murphy
The song "The Greatest Love of All" may mean many things to many people, but to Dwayne Murphy it was the subject of his first public singing experience at the tender age of six. Over the following four years, Dwayne's love for singing grew along with his religious yearnings. He began attending the Church of Jesus Christ United Pentecostal Church, where he sang on the Sunday School Choir and allowed him to travel to various churches and minister occasionally. Though young, Dwayne was determined to pursue his faith, despite his mother's cautions about his age. So though born in 1984, Dwayne was "born again" in 1992 after an alter call one night in church, when he was filled with the power of the Holy Ghost. He moved up to be a member of his church's Junior Choir, but he was still not seen as ‘lead singer' material. Devastated and confused, the teenager humbled himself and began practicing at home, despite constant shouts for him to "shut up!" With artistes such as Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and John P. Kee playing in his head, Dwayne promised himself to become one of the best singers at his church. He knew it would be hard, especially since his church sang mostly traditional gospel songs. As he became a much stronger Christian, however, Dwayne gained more confidence and respect in using his gift from God. One year later, the Tavern Drive native's singing and dramatic talents blew away his opponents in the ‘Mr. Papine Competition'. Not blinded by his win, the newly dubbed "Mr. Papine" put his mind to the books and successfully sat his CXC Examinations. As a lucky "graduation gift", Dwayne sang in fine style at his second graduation ceremony. By now a respected singer, Dwayne got his dream of being a lead singer on his church choir while joining the singing group "The Gospel Sapphires", whom he sang with for three years. In 2003, Dwayne joined forces with rapper "D.A.Jay" and subsequently Dizzle Lab Productions. He is currently working on making his record debut single, "Father what we need is Love", produced by Dr. Dizzle.
Look out for Murphy because there is a lot more to learn about this young man. |
