"THE SPAWN OF SATAN is one of the best bands I have ever heard. Fronted by Jim Sadist (NunSlaughter) with former or current members of such Ohio's killing bands as DECREPIT, DEAD OF NIGHT, SOULLESS, ALL THAT IS EVIL, this amazing outfit recorded 5 crushing tracks in the vein of old good Death / Thrash Metal school, so well known from releases of such acts like MASSACRE ("From Beyond"), CARNAGE, ENTOMBED ("Left Hand Path") or SLAYER ("Hell Awaits", "Reign In Blood"). SPAWN OF SATAN plays fast, dynamic and brutal music showing no mercy even for a while. Their riffing is simply brilliant: dark and devastating, very memorable. Frankly, just few albums released in last years deliver us so many great riffs. These riffs are not very intricate, but their strength is enormous. The structures of the tracks are not complicated too, but I can't even express how good they are: brutality and uncompromising character are the key-words to describe them. Do you remember "Reign In Blood"? I am sure... Read entire review »
| Yet again I have another example of why you don't judge a band by their cover or band name. I got this promo about a week ago and just from the cover art and band name alone I simply discounted it as a aggressive black metal album with tons of blast beats and no real difference from a ton of other bands out there. Of course if I would have read the attached description I could have noticed that this was actually some kick ass thrash metal but I make it a rule to never read the press blurb until I have actually listened to the CD to keep myself from being swayed by what they have to say. Hell, according to every press blurb I have ever read EVERY band is the greatest thing ever and will change the face of metal music as we now know it…hehe. OK, enough of the rambling bullshit, lets get down to business. I finally listened to this disc after having it for a couple of day and since that time I swear I couldn't pry it out of the CD player with a damn crowbar. The first half of the disc... | | Damn, this is an excellent example of what a split CD should be – two bands, two individual styles sworn together by the same attitude – to be evil as hell!!! SPAWN OF SATAN fronted by NUNSLAUGHTER member Jim Sadist / Satanic attack with diversified Death / Thrash musically influenced by Thrash legends like old PESTILENCE, DESTRUCTION, old SLAYER, KREATOR etc. What I recognized as a positive surprise were the vocals, which remind me a lot of "The Tyrant" Kam Lee on MASSACRE's first demo, excellent!!! The five songs on this split CD have the primitive evil feeling I love about 80's extreme Metal and SPAWN OF SATAN manage to recreate this unique unholy oldschool intensity in perfection. BLOODSICK are not worse than their partners in crime, but have a slightly different approach to evil Death / Thrash than SPAWN OF SATAN. The vocals are a bit more classic Thrash-screaming like NUCLEAR ASSAULT, early DEMOLITION HAMMER and the music has the drive of Death / Thrash, but the heavy sound of... Read entire review » |
