Brief Description Dark Melodic Fantasy Metal = mixtures, elements & influences of gothic, black, doom, death, melodic, technical, speed, thrash, progressive, acoustic, and of course... fantasy.
History/Biography : 2004 : Frozen Mist started off as a basic gothic metal solo project in February 2004 by me, Jamie, because I felt a need to write music and to support the metal scene by utilizing PC programs to compose the music, since I don't own any instruments anymore. Musically & lyrically, Frozen Mist is a genre of music that I have classified as "Dark Melodic Fantasy Metal." Frozen Mist is influenced by excellent metal bands such as Overkill, Serpentia, King Diamond, Orphanage, Eternal Gray and The Project Hate MCMXCIX just to name a few.
: 2005 : A year later in the wintery beginnings of 2005, I drastically changed the music styles leaning onto more of lush fantasy and beautiful horror environments from my mind onto pieces of paper and into the music that I have written. In the first half of 2005, I've engaged in experimenting with different musical elements such as electro hi-q's, industrial sounds and background drum loop patterns, hence I then later took these ideas and the side project Mournful Cries Wept Mist was born. Frozen Mist meshes the perfect balance of horror and beauty.
A few internet collaborations from women online have helped out with vocals in the past which has given Frozen Mist that sort of old school "gothic" feel torwards the music with their harmonic, yet beautiful operatic and soprano melodies, thus creating the ideal sound that I wanted to achieve with Frozen Mist.
The Frozen Mist album entitled "Weeping Redolence" released right after Christmas 2005 has really turned some heads on quite a few people. The very first official review has been written by Matt Hensch and can be read over at his review site below: http://www.rocknworld.com/thrashpit/reviews/06/FrozenMist.shtml
: 2006 : The "Godforsaken" album released on August 19th, 2006 features front cover photomanipulation artwork done by Amanda Abram and matches exactly very well with the lyrics and music for this CD. The lyrical content behind "Godforsaken" is simply all about desolation, isolation, complete hatred and infinite sadness. Matt Hensch's review for this CD can be viewed below: http://www.rocknworld.com/thrashpit/reviews/06/FrozenMistGod.shtml
The "Sapphiric" CD was pretty much just a rush job. I started work on this during the "Godforsaken" sessions because I had recieved new guitar samples in the summer of 2006 and really wanted to quickly experiment with them, hence its quick release in late October 2006.
After the release of "Sapphiric", I decided it was time to move forward with the band. So, Walt Davis was asked to join Frozen Mist and play lead guitar for the band in October 2006.
: 2007 : While Walt was working on leads for the next CD, I got inspired to write some technical death metal music a little heavier and a different approach from Frozen Mist's style, hence Brumous (my 2nd solo side project) was started in January 2007. During the winter months of 2006-2007, there has been several lineup changes with trying to find a permanent female vocalist to complete the next album. So finally in June 2007, I put out an advert banner on trying to find a "permanent" fix in the Williamsport/Lycoming County area. With absolutely no luck from the banner, my last resort was to ask the haunting female soprano voice of Katarina Rose from the "Godforsaken" album to rejoin for the new CD, thus Frozen Mist was reborn!! Walt and Katarina could not finish the album on time during the midway point of recording, therefore Richard and S. Lee Baysinger from Fateless Tears was asked to finish the remainder of the album.
: 2008 : After the release of "Dark Seasons Of Sorrow", I pushed even farther with making the distinctive sound of Frozen Mist even more realistic. The new work in progress CD, tentatively titled "espershades", is modelled by the beautiful Melanie Swank and will be featured on the album artwork when it is complete. Wulv, from the PA black metal band Funeral Dust, has joined Frozen Mist to add his vokillz and Andrew Griffith will be partaking in laying down the lead guitar tracks. Lyrically, this new album deals with the hauntings and nightmares all about the paranormal. "espershades" is slated for release in spring 2009. |
