"It will be the launching pad for my new projects," he said.

| Doyle in Hirsute Scandal! Posted on September 18, 2006 9:24 PM

| Bearded theatre director Casey Moon-Watton has captured footage of Encyclopedia Brown frontman N. Francis Doyle rehearsing his new play 'The Boys', premiering Sep 29. EB fans might be shocked to see Doyle sporting so much facial hair, but not as shocked as Doyle himself. "I was clean-shaven when I got up that morning," he said. The full, original photo can be found in the gallery.
| Brown Buffs Guitar for Boys 'Soundtrack'. Posted on September 14, 2006 1:46 AM

| Encyclopedia Brown frontman N. Francis Doyle is set to produce his first music since 2003, penning the incidental score for his upcoming production of 'The Boys'. Doyle plays the irredeemable Brett Sprague in Gordon Graham's chilling drama which opens at Fortituide Valley's VisibleInk on Sep 29. Doyle see this opportunity as a path to record more Encyclopedia Brown songs in the near future. "It's a 'boy who cried wolf' deal," Doyle said from his pulpit high atop Space Mountain yesterday. "I've been trumpeting new songs for a long time and I've not been able to get into a studio to record, so if i say it again, whoever might be hoping for new songs may just tune out, thinking it another rash comment." Does he actually want to record new material? "Yr darn tootin' I do! I've been wanting to for a long time...the last year has just been so busy. I've done so much stage work and a little bit of film...but the stage work takes up so much time and energy it's almost impossible to... Read more »
| EB Hits Toppermost of Poppermost! Posted on September 8, 2006 6:52 AM

| Shock today as Encyclopedia Brown hit #1 on Audiostreet's lo-fi indie pop chart, with the song 'She' hitting #3 and the newest upload 'Doo' also busting into the Top 30! EB frontman N. Francis Doyle was quoted as saying "Cool...more than one person listened to the song in one day. Thank you." Whether this means Doyle will be motivated back into the studio early is not known, as Doyle is hard at work on 'The Boys' (see earlier articles).
| EB Finds Naan Bread Holy Grail! Posted on September 7, 2006 6:18 AM

| EB frontman N. Francis Doyle has finally found the perfect naan recipe. After visitng an Indian grocer in Fortitude Valley recently, Doyle was pointed in the direction of a special kind of wheat flour which makes perfect naan, which itself is the perfect accompaniment to all sub-continental dishes. Famed Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar (pictured) was overjoyed at the news, saying "I am overjoyed at the news." Asha Bhosle was not available for comment. Doyle was quoted as saying: For years I'd searched unsuccessfully for a naan recipe that bore some resemblance to those fine breads made by our sub-contintental brothers and sisters. But, to my dismay, nothing online came close. Thanks to a very helpful local Indian grocer, I now have a great, authentic and simple naan recipe. Ingredients 300g sharps or maida flour (this is a normal wheat flour which has been milled to a "sharps" or ultra-fine consistency and is the key to the recipe) 1 cup water 1 tbsp oil (I used... | Brown in Boys Bogan Ballyhoo Posted on September 4, 2006 11:29 PM

| There's a buzz surrounding N. Francis Doyle's new role as the evil Brett Sprague in the chilling Australian drama 'The Boys', opening late September at VisibleInk in the Valley. Doyle is looking forward to playing yet another evil character. "Of all the roles in the last 12 months, Salieri, Hugh Dorsey in Parade and the conman in the movie 'Flight', Brett is by far the worst...I'm really liking the idea of playing someone much nicer in the near future." The play investigates the behaviour and attitudes of poorly educated working class people from the outer suburbs and how their disenfranchisement from mainstream society might lead to unspeakable crime. With characters (allegedly) loosely based on the perpretrators of the horrific 1986 pack rape and murder of Sydney nurse Anita Cobby, 'The Boys' focuses squarely on a family's life before and after the crime is committed."There's no physical violence to speak of in the play," Doyle says. "The rape and murder are not depicted. Just... Read more »
| Farewell Pluto and Astrology... Posted on August 28, 2006 8:26 PM

| EB frontman N. Francis Doyle yesterday invited the world to farewell Pluto as the Solar System's ninth planet, at the same time asking humankind to throw off the shackles of astrology. Speaking from Space Mountain, Doyle said the people of planet Earth had a collective responsibility to embrace Pluto's 'demotion' while looking toward new futures of human consciousness. "These are important matters," he said, adding, "but the immediate and critical challenge we face is to come up with a new planetary mnemonic."
| EB to Caterwaul for Masses! Posted on June 29, 2006 11:12 PM

| EB frontman N. Francis Doyle is preparing to take a musical leap in the Warehaus Theatre Company's production of 'Parade', running at the QPAC's Cremorne Theatre from July 12. 'Parade' tells the true story of Leo Frank, a Brooklyn Jew tried and convicted of the rape and murder of a young girl in Atlanta in 1913. Doyle plays the role of the conniving D.A. Hugh Dorsey in this intense drama. Whilst reluctant to speak about the show, Doyle did mention that he felt like a babe in the woods surrounded by such a talented cast of singers and musicians. "I think they cast me on the strength of my acting...they bloody better have," he said, adding, "Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"
| EB New Song Shock...an' that. Posted on June 29, 2006 10:38 PM

| | Encyclopedia Brown frontman N. Francis Doyle has come out of his theatrically-enforced sabbatical to announce the near-completion of a new EB song, for inclusion on his next recording. The as-yet-untitled song (which has no name yet) is about stuff...an' that. While unavailable for comment yesterday, Doyle did reveal "I am unavailable for comment". A spokesman for Doyle said that the song is a paean to all things good, holy good, really good, and full of love. He has since been fired. More news in a jif...fy. |
