Jamie Rockstars Glued 1. How did you come up with the name "Sex & Patriotism"? WE WERE DISCUSSING A SONG WE WERE WRITING. THE SONG HAD 2 PARTS, ONE THAT SOUNDED SEXUAL AND ANOTHER THAT SOUNDED PATRIOTIC. IT JUST KINDA FIT THE STYLE AND VIBE OF THE BAND AND THEN WE KINDA GREW INTO THE NAME. PEOPLE WOULD ASK WHAT THE NAME OF OUR NEW BAND WAS, AND AT FIRST WE'D SAY IT WITH SOME INTREPIDATION. WAITING TO SEE WHAT REACTION IT WOULD INVOKE. WE QUICKLY CONFIRMED WE HAD A GREAT BAND NAME! NOW I CAN'T IMAGINE BEING CALLED ANYTHING ELSE. I LOVE THE CONVERSATION THAT BOTH SUBJECTS CREATE. 2 THINGS THAT EVERYONE HAS IN COMMON YET ARE DIFFERENT FOR EVERYONE. SEX & PATRIOTISM ARE ALSO 2 THINGS IN THIS WORLD THAT CAN BE AS BEAUTIFUL AS THEY ARE DANGEROUS. THE DICHOTOMY OF OPPOSITES CREATES A PERFECT PLACE TO SOE THE SEEDS OF THE CHAOS THAT IS ROCK N' ROLL. 2. How long have you been together as a band and how did you meet? THE BAND HAS BEEN TOGETHER IN VARIOUS... Read entire review »
| Interview with Sex and Patriotism By Heather Burke HB: Hi. How are you doing today? Hey there, Pretty good, thanX. Just got back from visiting people for Thanksgiving festivities. Drank too much, ate way too much, and now today I'm mostly napping. Saving my strength for Guns N' Roses tomorrow in Detroit! He better fuckin' show up! lol HB: How did the band Sex and Patriotism come together as a band? Hmm... Well this rapper chick I knew named KayC thru a mutual friend, kept getting on my ass about doing something with my talent. So after another chastising I went down to the local music store Music Manor and walked up to the counter. I said "Hi I'm ChriSteele and I can do this and this and this...etc. and I'm lookin' for a band". The guy across the counter said "Oh.. really...?" and I said "Yeah... really." His name was AJ. He started coming over to my house every day and we'd sit in front of my fireplace and write. Soon we had material to start rehearsing. AJ knew some... Read entire review »
| Lansing State Journal Article March 06 Sex and Patriotism Knows How to Make Arena Rock The guys of Sex and Patriotism have a simple mission, and that is to make true rock believers out of whoever's path they cross. The guys - frontman Chris Steele, lead guitarist A.J. Braman, rhythm guitarist Doug E., bass player Joe Wesolowski and drummer Les Mayhew - got together in early 2004. They started crafting genuine rock 'n' roll music, branded by power vocals, razor-sharp guitar solos and vicious rhythms. It's a heavy collection of vignettes that can be found on the group's latest disc, "To Die For." And it's weighty enough to have scored the guys opening gigs for some big names in the rock/metal world. Those would be Silvertide, Revelation Theory and Flickerstick (yes, of VH1's "Battle of the Bands" fame). You can get a taste of the rock rapture when the guys play Mac's Bar tonight. The group's promotions director is MJ Williams, who also promoted and managed popular former Lansing... Read entire review » |

Each individual in the group makes a significant contribution that seems to gel nicely. Although the music style could be called "dated" it is delieverd in a way that feels fresh. I recieved a copy in late June and have listened to it almost exclusively the last few weeks. As the CD plays through, I don't find myself skipping tracks to get to the "good" ones, they're all good ones. I... Read entire review » |

I like the video because it establishes the mood of the song and the lyrics. Also, the guitarist is very good, tearing it up on the solo with his whammy petal. The thing that stood out most to me is the bass player's riff in the . Very awesome! It is very rare to see a bass player tearing it up in a rock band. Good drummer also. Keep up the good work.
