Brief Description Dissociate features noisy bleats and beats; triangulating between tribal power noise, emotive techno, and delicious ice cream... All songs are created with hardware devices and are arranged and performed in realtime from multiple sound sources and sequences. It is alienated yet inviting.
History/Biography Dissociate is the solo project of Jonathan Ford, a Minneapolis, MN USA based musician, sound designer, and DJ that draws influence from an eclectic array of sources such as power noise, IDM, trance, and trip hop. In contrast with many electronic acts, Dissociate is designed with spontaneity and improvisation in mind. Each song is constructed and arranged in real-time from multiple sound sources and looping sequences. Every performance is a unique exploration of the material often resulting in new musical discoveries within this confined aural space. Dissociate's inception was in June of 2001.
Past projects include playing guitar and programming for Dies Irae !US, a dark pop outfit that began in 1996, which reached its peak in 1999 performing the main stage at the 8. Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, DE. The group disbanded the same year having released one independent album in late 1998 entitled ‘DOGMA.' While a student at the University of Minnesota, Jonathan co-founded a radio program on KUOM 770 Radio K called The Descent. Airing from May of 1997 until January 2003, The Descent provided a sorely missing outlet on the airwaves for the darker genres of music. Including co-hosts Erik Hoover and Mike Neuharth, the self-styled Descent Triad have made numerous guest DJ appearances at varied clubs and venues in the Twin Cities over the last six years, including spinning for Gary Numan at the First Avenue Main room. As a sound designer, Jonathan has also contributed music, audio collages, and sound effects for numerous local theatrical and performance art pieces. In 2002, Jonathan participated in a production of "Die Hamletmaschine," performed on July 4th in conjunction with the XIV World Congress International Federation for Theatre Research in Amsterdam.
Besides Dissociate, Jonathan plays guitar for the emerging Electropunk outfit Stellar Vector in collaboration with Charles Sadler from Little Tin Box. The pair also collaborate in the production team In.Flect, which has remixed the likes of Halloween Alaska, 12 Rods, andTrigger10D on WTII Records. |
