Brief Description In June 2006 Artist Chris Dooks undertook a residency at Leith's A1 Gallery in Edinburgh where he wrote and performed 4 songs on amphibious themes in an homage to nearby Salamander Street, home of Leith's prostitutes.
History/Biography Chris Dooks is an Edinburgh based visual artist / songwriter and digital musician (google 'bovine life' for example). An ex tv director, fed up of making documentaries on musicians, he became one himself and carried on doing many artist residencies.
Here are three of his other projects online:

During the residency featured here, in this little known Leith gallery in Edinburgh, Dooks was also creating a shrine to prostitutes, salamanders and Mary Magdelene - patron saint of prostitutes. During this time Dooks found out that Mary Magdelene was not even a prostitute - a common misconception from the Bible stories.
Short stories on Salamanders were read alongside others on slightly tangental elements, and a video piece was made and projected in the gallery also. Around 35 people attended, plus another 20 for the polyfaith presentation - featured in pictures on here.
Leith's A1 gallery were excellent hosts during this time - flexible, nice and well located. Dooks may return back there later in the year.
