Brief Description "...a young Canadian independent recording artist, ERIK shot up the online charts with his debut cd, FLAWED. Singles from his cd, Freak Of Nature (2004), hit the FM airwaves months before the album was released. 2006 ERIK released A Road Less Travelled, which launched him to an entirely new level, landing 2 singles on the soundtrack of the hit US tv series Dante's Cove, and 1 on the 2007 tv series The Lair, and spawned 6 #1 nethits! 2007 brings his ENGINES cd..."
History/Biography - ERIK was frontman for many successful underground bands over the years, including Fuse and Shockdogs! - his first official solo cd, FLAWED, sold thousands internationally. It marked June in the #4 spot on mp3.com's International Pop Chart (right behind Avril Lavigne and Alannis Morrisette), and spent months in the #1 spot on Iuma's charts. -since then, ERIK has attracted the unsolicited attention of a major label, several smaller labels and managerial firms. A major manufacturer has requested one of ERIK's singles to come preloaded in a new line of mp3 players. - ERIK is currently in the studio, preparing for the release of his next cd, ENGINES, in 2007!

Performance Training : - Stratford Theatre - Theatre Aquarius School of The Performing Arts - Ontario Conservatory Of Music - Community Theatre (ERIK was the youngest member on the Board Of Directors in Brantford Community Theatre history!)
Performing Experience : Ok..well, I started out as a child actor, but I was totally fascinated by music and the musical experience. While I was learning instruments I was singing in competitions and auditioning for commercials and shows and all that. I guess you could say I was your basic studio brat. Then I did a string of truly BAD b-movies and Canadian series, and got as far out of that scene as possible! Then I decided it was probably smart to snag a back-up so I went back to school. Now I've come full-circle.
Music : People always ask me what or who I sound like. That's really a tough one for me, and nobody so far has been able to help me with that one. I try not to sound like anyone or any particular style or whatever. It's really hard to explain, but I basically take a feeling and kinda sculpt the sound to match it. Sometimes it takes me to totally weird places, and those are usually my personal favourites. I love it when I finish a song and it doesn't sound like anything you've heard. I call it hybrid alternative.
Performing Live : Yeah, I've done my share and been in a whack of bands, mostly underground movements. Of course, performing live adds alot of layers to the song experience that ya miss out on if you don't get out there physically, and I've had a blast so far. Right now I'm concentrating on recording and releasing, but I'm sure I'll get out there again soon with all this new material I've been hacking away at.
The Flawed concept: "The idea behind the name of this cd is that music has come a loong way in terms of production finesse and I really appreciate that evolution, but I've always been a fan of the old, rough, flawed rock and roll cuts too...so my idea was to try to combine the two worlds for this cd. Basically, I'm taking my own sound (a blend of alternative, rock, pop, dark funk and industrial to name a few)and deliver it in a familiar 2002ish sound environment but all done by hand. No loops. No samples. Every note done manually. So you get a little unevenness, a little realness..a sense that a person is creating it. That's the technical side of it anyways. The lyrical concepts are all built around 'Flawed' values and ideals and perceptions in our society. We put such an emphasis on perfection in this society...it's my reaction. It's not an album for little kids."
On his Freak Of Nature (released 2004) : "This album is, I think, some of my favourite stuff so far. The tunes are alot more dynamic and sensory. Also the production demonstrates growth. There's an edgy angst thread that bonds these tunes to a theme as well. But the songs are still really unique from each other, even stylistically. The Freak concept isn't new...it deals with themes we're pretty used to dealing with...rejection, outsider anger and frustration, dysfunctional self-concepts and all that fun stuff. I think everyone that's going through something damaging, or that has gone through something damaging, will find something to I.D. with. Another album that's NOT for the kids though." |
