Artist History
Brief Description
"Tube's music is about breakbeat manipulation and sonic sorcery."- CMJ

History/Biography
The man behind the eclectic electric breakbeat sound of Tube is Frank Heiss. A mastery of machine manipulation and an ever-changing assortment of electronic devices has earned him a notorious reputation for live performances after which, you are unlikely to ever hear anything quite the same way again. In the fall of 1999, Frank Heiss completed a 16 date US tour with The Sisters of Mercy, opening their shows as Tube. Frank Heiss has re-mixed artists like German electronic masters Holger Czukay, Air Liquide, Joerg Burger, and Computer Jockeys. He has also done re-mixes for DJ Soul Slinger, recorded with DJ Wally, worked with techno pioneer and former member of Psychic TV Fred Giannelli as well as LA vocal innovator Nik Frost and most recently, drumming legend Kenwood Dennard. Frank Heiss has released music on Liquid Sky Music, Harvest/EMI, Sm:)e Communications, Syncom, Rising High, Acid Orange, Eat Raw, and Mute records.
The son of a contemporary classical composer, already playing drums at the age of four, Frank Heiss became an accomplished orchestral timpanist and drummer, but after being exposed to breakbeat music in 1992 he started using electronic musical instruments. Eventually using only electronic instruments, in the spring of 1994, Frank Heiss moved to New York City where he met Dr. Walker from Cologne, Germany. After his first visit to Germany in 1995, Frank spent several years living and recording in Cologne, Boston, and New York. In 1996, a deal with Liquid Sky Music was established, and Tube "Alive" was released in 1997. "Bending Spoons" was released in 1998, on EMI's 'Harvest' label, which was once home to the music of Soft Machine, Deep Purple and Pink Floyd. Tube "Steak" followed in 1999-2000. Frank Heiss lives in New York City.
